Tournaments will be added to the form once they are scheduled.

Beginning with the 2018-2019 academic year, International Academic Competitions is pleased to announce that it will be holding a series of International Geography Bee Regional Quiz Tournaments in Asia.
The Regional Quiz Tournaments provide an alternate way for students to qualify for the 2019 International Geography Bee Asian Championships in June. Students can certainly still continue to qualify through the Championships Qualifying Exams. Additionally, the Regional Quiz Tournaments are held on the same format that we use at our Asian Championships, so the tournaments, aside from being an exciting new way to compete on their own, provide great preparation for students planning on competing at the IGB Asian Championships.

Format
All IGB Regional Quiz Tournaments consist of 3 preliminary rounds of 30 questions in the Varsity and Junior Varsity Divisions (25 in the Middle School Division) and then 1 final round of 30 (or 25) questions for the top students. All students play in all three of the preliminary rounds; the number who make the final will vary from 3-10 based on turnout in each division.
Aside from the geographic focus, the rules are the same as the regional tournaments of the International History Bee. Please see the History Bee website if you are interested in competing in additional history-themed quiz competitions. A copy of the rules for the IGB Regional Quiz Tournaments is available here. For sample questions to practice with, please see the past questions used at our Asian Championships, though note that the questions used at IGB Regionals will be somewhat easier.

Costs and Registration

Registration for the International Geography Bee Regional Quiz Tournaments in Asia is now open!
Click here to access the registration form. Tournaments will be added to the form once they are scheduled.

The participation fee in all cases is $25 USD per student or equivalent in local currency per www.xe.com at the time you are invoiced (an invoice will be sent upon registration).
The participation fee must be paid at the tournament itself by cash or otherwise sent by wire transfer (which must be paid in USD) to the account provided on the invoice; a $35 USD wire transfer fee applies regardless of how many students are being registered from a school.

Finally, please note that each IGB Regional Quiz Tournament will feature both an Elementary Division for students in 6th grade and younger and a Middle School Division for students in 7th and 8th grade (unless one of these divisions has fewer than 4 students, in which case, they will be combined). Students can qualify for Nationals though, if they are either in the top 50% of students in their IGB Regional Quiz Tournament Division, or, if they are in the top 50% of students in 8th grade, 7th grade, 6th grade, or 5th grade and younger (based on their grade) as these are the age divisions that will be contested at IGB Nationals. Note that any student who qualifies for IGB Nationals through the IGB Regional Quiz Tournaments also qualifies for the National Championships of the US Geography Olympiad as well.
